What is the training all about?
The class consists of a two week comprehensive course (one week at a time, 4 to 6 weeks apart) in dealing with lamination for of flexible packaging. Most mornings include theoretical teachings from Henkel experts. In the afternoons participants will do hands-on training in the technical service center.
How will you learn?
As mistakes are actually one foundation for learning, the practical training will use machines from Henkel to demonstrate the most common mistakes and offer corrective solutions. These practical exercises are always conducted in small groups, with an assigned mentor to ensure that learning objectives are achieved. At the end of the course, each student will receive the course manual, containing all presentations.
Studies have shown that people learn best not from reading or from watching, but from actually doing. The concept of Henkel Converters’ Academy is based on this approach.
Week 1:
- Why laminations are made (Flexible packaging versus other types of packages, different substrates offer different features)
- Substrates (Manufacturing, properties, types)
- Adhesives (technologies: Solvent-based and solvent-free; handling: mixing, data sheet review etc.)
- Dosing units (Basics, cautions, important operating instructions)
- Curing (Conditions and challenges)
- Test methods (Bond strength, seal strength)
- Failure mode analysis (Batch card, laminating with different solids, on/off ratio)
- Troubleshooting
- Practical training
Week 2:
- Machine parameters and how they influence the lamination
- Web handling (Interaction between films and rollers, web tension, winding)
- Rollers (Different roller types)
- Rolling, curling and other web defects (Solutions and preventions)
- Optics (Wetting, orange peel, wrinkling, solution and preventions)
- Practical training
- IHK (CCI) Certificate Test
